I-League champions Aizawl FC knocked out of the MFA Super Cup!

In a major upset, I-League champions Aizawl FC were beaten by newly promoted Mizoram Premier League side Mizoram Police FC in the round of 16 of the Lalbiakliana Memorial Mizoram Football Association Super Cup 2017.

A thrilling encounter saw Aizawl FC take a two goal lead minutes from the start of the second half through strikes from H. Lalbiakthanga and Rochharzela, but Mizoram Police FC responded with three goal in tha space of 10 minutes as Lalsangbera, Lalfakzuala and F. Lalrinpuia each found the net.

Lalsangbera scored his second and MPFC’s fourth in stoppage time and there was late drama as MPFC’s M.C. Lalthanzaua scored an own goal three minutes into stoppage time for the match to end 4-3 in favour of Mizoram Police.

MPL sides Chanmari West FC and Dinthar FC defeated their opponents to seal a place in the quarterfinals.

MPL side Ramhlun North FC were also knockedout in the round of 16 during the weekend as Aizawl FC Academy pulled an upset with a penalty shootout victory after a goalless draw.
