I-League champions Aizawl FC score late 2-2 equaliser in opener at East Bengal!

Kolkata giants East Bengal Club threw away a 2-0 lead and they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against defending I-League champions Aizawl FC at the Saltlake Stadium on Tuesday evening.

It was the return to the iconic Saltlake Stadium that the red and gold would have wished for under new head coach Khalid Jamil, who last season had coached opponents Aizawl FC to the title.

After a barren first half, things really picked after the break with East Bengal going ahead in the 66th minute when a Katsumi Yusa corner was headed on by Brandon Vanlalremdika and then into the goal by defender Eduardo Ferreira.

Things got even better in the 72nd minute when a Mohammed Rafique shot was half deflected, half shot by Katsumi Yusa into the Aizawl FC goal for East Bengal to take a 2-0 lead.

But the match was far from over, then only two minutes later a David Lalrinmuana free-kick was headed on by Kareem beating keeper Mirshad K. and it was an easy head in for William Lalnunfela into the empty net.

And in the fourth minute of injury time it was again William Lalnunfela to score for Aizawl FC following a corner and utter chaos in the box with keeper Mirshad again cluelless.

In the end East Bengal handed away three sure points, while Aizawl FC showed their comeback qualities once more.
