I-League clubs want appointment from AIFF president on ISL – I-League merger!

Eight I-League clubs have asked for an appointment with AIFF president Praful Patel to clear the air regarding the future of the I-League and the participating I-League clubs.

Citing to recent news report suggesting the demolition of I-League after this season and the proposed idea of making ISL the top tier league in the country, all I-League clubs oe. Aizawl FC, Chennai City FC, Churchill Brothers, Gokulam Kerala FC, Minerva Punjab FC, Mohun Bagan, NEROCA, Quess East Bengal have called for an appointment with AIFF president Praful Patel seeking explanation amidst this ensuing anxiety about their future.

In the letter addressed to Mr. Praful Patel, the owners of the I-League clubs sought for an appointment with him to discuss about the future of the I-League and the clubs concerned. The letter proposed for the merger of the I-League and the ISL for a unified top tier league in the country that is operated and monitored fully by the AIFF and not the FSDL. The letter also highlighted the over interference and the control the FSDL has in Indian football and how it has been trying to kill the I-League over the years to promote its own private league, ie. ISL. All the I-League clubs also voiced in their disapproval about the harsh unfair treatment meted to the Champions Minerva Punjab by the AIFF for being too vocal about the FSDL and has asked for both the AIFF and the FSDL to stop targeting the defending champions.

The owners who were not given an appointment by the President of the AIFF in December last year has asked Praful Patel to meet them this time on 20th February considering the urgency of matters in hand. They owners of the I-League teams have all proposed for a unified league and also asked for AIFF to have more transparency regarding the report prepared by the AFC for the merger of the two leagues that was submitted to the AIFF last year.
