Spurred on by a record 5-0 win in the Maha Derby in their last encounter, DSK Shivajians will look forward to hosting a high flying Shillong Lajong side at home on April 8.
With this being both the sides’ first encounter since the resumption of the league after the International Break, they will both look to make a positive impact on the game. Currently sitting at fourth place in the league table, Shillong Lajong are on what is one of their best runs ever in the league. DSK Shivajians’ too, have shown a lot of improvement in their second time out in the I-League.
These spirited displays in the league, can to a large part, be credited to the U22 players in both camps, who, under Dave Rogers and his Meghalayan counterpart Thangboi Singto, received ample playing time in the league. Under the stewardship of the Englishman, the likes of Lallianzuala Chhangte, Mawihmingthanga, Jerry Lalrinzuala, and Sairuatkima have become household names.
“It’s great to give the Indian National Team Manager a hotbed of young talent, which Thangboi of Shillong Lajong has done, and which I believe in. I’m not going to stop doing that. This year alone, we’ve given 12 Academy players their I-League debut,” said Dave Rogers, First Team Manager DSK Shivajians.
The last time the two sides met, DSK Shivajians recorded a historic first ever away win in the I-League. This will however, be of little circumstance in the upcoming fixture. Speaking on the fixture, Rogers added, “My players give me their all on a daily basis, and I can’t ask any more of them. Tomorrow, we have two good footballing teams, more importantly two young teams who’ll go out there and give their all for their football club tomorrow. We’ll try and be positive and on the front foot for as much as we can.”
The Match is to be played on April 8 at 7.00pm at the Balewadi Stadium, Pune and will be telecast LIVE on TEN2.
