Independence Day Cup 2017: Bethlehem Vengthlang FC seal last semifinal spot!

The final Group A fixtures of the Independence Day Cup 2017 were played today and MPL club Bethlehem Vengthlang FC sealed their place in the last four.

The first fixture of the day saw AIFF Elite Academy U-19 sign off with a win over Dinthar FC. Edmund Lalrindika scored a brace to hand the Indian Colts a 2-1 victory, their first of the tournament.

AIFF Elite Academy U-19 boys went ahead in the fourth minute when Edmund tapped it home from a well-executed pass by Suraj. They went on pressing hard to double the lead but Dinthar FC contained them well until the half-time.

Edmund then cut through from the left side of the box and blasted the back of the net to double the lead in the 67th minute.

Dinthar FC came back strongly and halved the gap eleven minutes to the final whistle with a strike from Jackson Ochuko.

After AIFF Elite Academy U-19 had grabbed their final three points, the last fixture of the group would decide the fate of three teams as Bethlehem Vengthlang FC and Ramhlun North FC squared off.

With both teams on four points, a win would see them through to the semifinals while a draw would mean the Indian colts complete the last four.

Bethlehem Vengthlang FC gained the upper hand in the first half and missed chances to take the lead as Rammawia leh V.L. Thanga went close.

At the other end, Bethlehem Vengthlang FC keeper Ruatpuia also saved a great effort from Rinfela.

BVT FC kept pressing in the second half with B. Zoramthara forcing a save from Ramhlun North FC goalkeeper Rinhlua. They finally got their breakthrough when Laldinpuia headed in a well struck freekick from Vanlalthanga on the 61st minute.

Last season’s MPL finalist Bethlehem Vengthlang FC then made sure of all three points when Vanlalthanga finished off a cross from Rammawia six minutes from time.
