Independence Day Cup 2017: Bethlehem Vengthlang FC win, Aizawl FC & AIFF U-19 battle to a draw!

Day Three of the Independence Day Cup 2017 saw Bethlehem Vengthlang FC come out 1-0 winners against Dinthar FC in Group A, while I-League champions Aizawl FC were held to a draw by an impressive AIFF Elite Academy U-19 team in the same group.

An exciting first half saw Dinthar FC come close several times with chances from Lalbiakhlua and Malsawmtluanga. BVT FC also had their fair share of threats but they couldn’t pose a substantial threat to Dinthar FC keeper Malsawma.

Dinthar FC’s foreign recruit Clarence Carter brilliant effort was stopped by Bethehem Vengthlang FC keeper Hmangaihzuala in the second half and it was BVT FC who found the breakthrough on the 67th minute with an effort from B. Zoramthara.

Bethlehem Vengthlang FC secured three points from two outings, Dinthar remained pointless after the same number of matches.

The second fixture of the day was played between Aizawl FC and the AIFF Elite Academy U-19 team.

The game began slowly with both sides unable to apply any pressure on the opponent goal. The pace increased though after the half hour mark with the AIFF boys mounting a flurry of attacks on the home side’s goal.

The AIFF team threatened through Lalnuntluanga and Lalengzama. Zonunmawia also had a chance and Edmund Lalrindika also proved to be a spark in their attacks.

Aizawl FC also had chances through William Lalnunfela and Lalmuankima, and they came very close as Lalruatfela Zote struck the post in the first half.

The second half saw much of the same action as both teams looked threatening at times but were unable to find the net.

Aizawl remained at the top of Group A with four points from two matches, where as the AIFF boys began their campaign with a well deserved point.
