Indian Women’s League preliminary round kicked off today in Odisha!

indian-womens-league-odishaThe inaugural Indian Women’s League preliminary round qualifiers kicked-off at the Cuttack Police Ground in Odisha earlier today, October 17 with Eastern Sporting Union and Alakhpura FC registering opening day wins.

Indian Women international Sanju’s hattrick led Alakhpura FC of Haryana to an easy 4-0 win over Bodyline FC of Mumbai, as Alakhpura FC’s Sanju found the net as early as the 13th minute and added to her tally in the 29th and the 49th minute. A late goal by Kavita in the dying embers of the match added gloss to the scoreline as Alakhpura FC ran out eventual 4-0 winners against Bodyline FC.

Meanwhile, Eastern Sporting Union FC of Manipur had to fight hard against Pondicherry’s Jeppiyar Institute FC to register a 3-2 win as Kamala Devi’s 64th minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides after the half-time scoreline read 2-2, after India Women striker Bala Devi’s 6th and 18th minute strikes were cancelled out by Sumithra and Nandhini in the 17th and 34th minute respectively.

The inaugural ceremony was held in the afternoon ahead of the Eastern Sporting Union and Jeppiyar Institute FC match.

Satyajit Mohanty (Additional D.G. of Police) was present in the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Asirbad Behera (Hon’y Secretary – OCA), Indu Choudhury (AIFF Women Football Manger), Sapna (AIFF Competition Manager) were present as the Guests of Honour.

The other dignitaries who were present in the inaugural ceremony were M.A. Alam (Secretary- OOA), Bijoy Kumar Das (Vice President- FAO), Bhakta Ballav Das (Vice President- FAO), Dillip Kumar Sahoo (Vice President- FAO), Tadit Kumar Rout (Vice President – FAO), Avijit Paul (Jt Secretary- FAO), Bijoy Kumar Das (Jt Secretary- FAO), Sangeeta Sharma (Jt Secretary- FAO) along with Dr S.R. Parija (secretary- Bhubaneswar DAA), Biswa Ranjan Ghadei (Secretary- Radharaman Club), Amit Behera (Secretary- Jaydurga Club), Sahadev Rout (Chairman – Women Football Development Committee – FAO), N.K. Mishra (Member – T & T Committee – FAO), Rabindra Kumar Parida (Secretary – OS TT A), Sanjib Dutta (Secretary- Sunshine Club), Raghunath Sahoo (Secretary- Jai Maa Mangala Club), Ganesh Prasad Bhagat (Secretary- Maorning Club), Narendra Kumar Sahoo (Secretray- Udaya Club), Mohammed Shahid Jabbar (Coach- Odisha Police), and Satya Mohanty (Secretary- Mangala Club).
