ISL-3: Chennaiyin FC return to winning ways with 2-0 over FC Pune City!

chennaiyin-fc-fc-pune-cityDefending Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over FC Pune City at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday night.

The home side were the better of the two teams in the first session with FC Pune City defending in numbers but Chennaiyin FC wasted their few chances through Raphael Augusto and Davide Succi before the guests had their best chance through a Anibal Rodriguez free kick which just went wide.

The deadline was broken by Chennaiyin FC in the 44th minute when a cross from young Jerry Lalrinzuala went via Davide Succi to Jeje Lalpekhlua, who headed in. The hosts took the 1-0 lead into the break.

FC Pune City had a better start into the second session but on two occasions keeper Karanjit Singh denied them the equaliser and at the other end in the 50th minute a Raphael Augusto cross was headed in by Davide Succi to make it 2-0 for Chennaiyin FC.

Thereafter nothing much happened as Chennaiyin FC saw out the game with FC Pune City unable to break down their opponents defence.

With the three points Chennaiyin FC moved back into contention for a semifinal spot, while FC Pune City dropped behind their opponents in the league table.
