ISL-3: Delhi Dynamos upset champions Chennaiyin FC 3-1!

chennaiyin-fc-delhi-dynamosMatch day six of the third edition of the Indian Super League saw defending champions Chennaiyin FC take on Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai and the fans watched a major upset as the Dynamos surprisingly won the match 3-1.

The hosts had the first couple of chances through Baljit Sahni and Bernard Mendy before the guests from the capital had their first chance through Brazilian striker Marcelinho. A foul by Duwayne Kerr on Milan Singh resulted in a penalty for Delhi Dynamos and Marcelinho put the ball in to give his side a 26th minute lead.

But Chennaiyin FC hit back on 32 minutes, when Nigerian striker MacPherlin Dudu Omagbemi was send free and placed the ball into the net past Doblas. But the cheers of the equaliser hadn’t died down, when Marcelinho again gave the Dynamos the lead and he could have completed a first half hattrick, hadn’t he been denied by an alert keeper Kerr.

Chennaiyin FC had their chances to equalise in the second session, but the Delhi Dynamos sealed a memorable win at the Marina Arena in the 84th minute when Kean Lewis scored the Dynamos third for them to win 3-1 in the end and secure their first three points under new manager Gianluca Zambrotta, who beat his former Italy team mate Marco Materazzi on the Chennaiyin FC bench.
