ISL-3: Kerala Blasters overcome Delhi Dynamos on penalties to reach final!

The Kerala Blasters reached the final of the Indian Super League – Season 3 with a 3-0 penalty shootout win over the Delhi Dynamos at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi after losing the match in regulation time 1-2, which led to extra time and the penalties.

All the three goals on the night came in the first half with Marcelinho scoring the opener for Delhi Dynamos in the 21st minute with Sandip Nandy off his line before Duckens Nazon equalised for Kerala Blasters quickly after his side went behind with a placed shot.

The Dynamos were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Milan Singh was send off for a high foot against Mehtab Hossain shortly before the half hour mark but defender Ruben Rocha scored for the Lions deep into stoppage time of the first half to equalise on aggregate.

It would stay this way until the end of regulation time, meaning 30 minutes of extra time and even then the game had no winner with the 10 men Dynamos having the better chances than the Blasters.

In the shootout the Dynamos were a complete disaster as Florent Malouda and Bruno Pellisari blasted over and Memo’s shoot was saved by seasoned Sandip Nandy, while at the other end Josu Currais, Kervens Belfort and Mohammed Rafique scored off their attempts while keeper Doblas saved Antonio German’s shot.

In the end the Blasters won the match and reach the final of ISL-3 to be played at their home, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday, December 18 against Atletico de Kolkata in a rematch of the 2014 ISL final, which ATK had then won.
