The Kerala Blasters scored a 2-1 comeback win at FC Goa to take the three points home in their Indian Super League – Season 3 match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao on Monday night.
Kerala Blasters striker Kervens Belfort was the first to have a shot on goal in the 10th minute, but it didn’t bother FC Goa keeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury, who made an easy collection.
At the other end, a Richarlyson cross from the left was headed in by Julio Cesar to give the Gaurs a 24th minute lead as keeper Sandip Nandy was left stranded as he couldn’t put up his hands quickly enough to deny the opposition the goal. It stayed 1-0 in favour of FC Goa.
But only seconds into the second half, Kerala Blasters equalised through seasoned striker Mohammed Rafi off a perfect low cross from Mohammed Rafique, who had received the ball from Mehtab Hossain.
Brazilian Julio Cesar wasted two chances for FC Goa to take the lead again before a Michael Chopra effort was saved by Subhasish Roy Chowdhury, while Chopra had to be taken off after the chance due to a likely hamstring injury.
FC Goa were lucky not to go behind in the 83rd minute as defender Gregory Arnolin’s back header to Subhasish Roy Chowdhury went past the keeper onto the post and then was cleared, but only a minute later Kervens Belfort scored the winner for the Kerala Blasters with a placed long ranger into the bottom left corner of the net.
FC Goa in the remaining minutes tried to get the equaliser, but they had to settle for a second 1-2 home loss in a row after having lost to FC Pune City in similar fashion due to a late goal.
