ISL-4: Mumbai City FC score late 3-2 winner over NorthEast United FC!

Mumbai City FC needed an injury-time winner from their captain Lucian Goian to beat NorthEast United FC 3-2 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday evening to keep their playoff chances alive.

After mainly midfield action in the initial stages, the host went ahead in the 15th minute through a placed strike by their experienced Cameroonian Achille Emana off an Everton pass.

NorthEast United FC seemed shocked after conceding the lead, but equalised against the run of play on 28 minutes, when a Maic Sema cross was shot goalwards by young Gursimrat Singh and captain Lucian Goian deflected the ball into his own net.

On the half hour mark Everton should have put his side again ahead, but keeper T.P. Rehenesh made a footed save, while at the other end striker John Mosquera received a pass from Lalrempuia but blasted over with only keeper Amrinder Singh ahead of him.

But NorthEast United FC went ahead in the 43rd minute when a Lalrindika Ralte corner was head in by defender Sambinha and the score remained 2-1 for the Highlanders at the break.

But the Islanders would hit back on 54 minutes as Everton Santos equalised off a Rafa Jorda layoff.

It was now an open game with chances at both ends but the winner would come for the hosts as a Raju Gaikwad cross was pushed into the nets by Lucian Goian for the much celebrated 3-2 winner, which leaves Mumbai City FC with an outside chance to qualify for the kncokout ISL semifinals.
