ISL-5: Kerala Blasters part ways with David James!

Former England goalkeeper David James is no longer head coach of Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters FC after a so far dismal ISL-5 campaign.

Last season in January 2018, David James had been brought back to Kerala Blasters for a second spell after he had been the player-coach in ISL-1 in which they had reached the final.

In ISL-4, David James replaced Dutchman Rene Meulensteen after a dismal start and took the southern side close to the playoffs but they finished sixth in the end.

Earlier in March 2018, David James’ contract had been extended until 2021 but now his second stint is cut short due to a lack of positive results. After winning the opening ISL-5 game at ATK, the Kerala Blasters have been winless which culminated in a 1-6 loss to Mumbai City FC on Sunday.

Kerala Blasters CEO Varun Tripuraneni in a press release from the club said, “The club would like to thank David for his efforts towards the team and wishes him all the very best in his career.”

David James meanwhile said, “I’d like to thank the management, players and all staff for their support during my stint with the club. I wish them the very best for the future. The fans here have been amazing and I’d like to thank them too for a memorable experience.”

Assistant coach Thangboi Singto will be the caretaker coach until a new head coach is appointed by the Kerala Blasters.
