ISL champions ATK sign English centre-back Tom Thorpe!

Defending Indian Super League champions ATK have announced the signing of English centre-back Tom Thorpe ahead of ISL – Season 4.

24 year old Manchester-born Thomas Joseph Thorpe started off his youth career with Manchester United, even captaining the Red Devils reserves to the inaugural U-21 Premier League title, making just one appearance for Manchester United as a substitute under Louis van Gaal before leaving the club in 2015.

Before his departure, Tom Thorpe had a loan spell with Birmingham United and in summer 2015 he signed a long-term contract with Rotherham United. But in March 2016 he went on an emergency loan to Bradford City. The coming season, Tom Thorpe went on loan to Bolton Wanderers, scoring a goal in 25 appearances.

Now this summer, Tom Thorpe has decided to leave English shores for the first time to join manager Teddy Sheringham and other Englishmen at ATK in the Indian Super League.

ATK principal owner Sanjiv Goenka stated in a press release, “We welcome Tom to our ATK family. We all are happy to have him in the team. He is an asset which will strengthen our team’s defence.”

“I will learn a lot under Teddy’s leadership, and will play to win. But I am sure my stint in ATK will have a remarkable impression on my career path. Above all I would like to thank the management for choosing me to be a part of this squad,” Tom Thorpe said in the release.
