Jamshedpur FC conduct an all-girls Grassroots Festival to celebrate JRD Tata’s birth anniversary!

It was a morning full of joy as 360 girls from three different schools participated in an all-girls Grassroots Festival organised by Jamshedpur FC and Tata Steel Sports Department to celebrate JRD Tata’s birth anniversary.

The enthusiasm was sky-rocketing during the festival as girls from Sacred Heart Convent School, JH Tarapore and Prem Jyoti Prangan took the field and indulged in various fun-based football activities. The festival was led by Head of Grassroots Kundan Chandra and assisted by 40 Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) coaches and Grassroots Coaches of Jamshedpur FC Football Schools.

The festival was graced by the presence of Indian archer and Arjuna Awardee, Padma Shri Deepika Kumari, who was an inspiration to the girls participating and provided some words of wisdom during the event. “Keep playing with freedom and joy and use football and sports as a way of being fit and ensure to follow the guidance provided by your teachers and coaches,” she said.

TSRDS Chief Sourav Roy, TSRDS Empowerment Head Amit Tirkey, TSRDS Sports Organiser Kausar Ahmad and Head Sports, Tata Steel Ashish Kumar were the esteemed Guest of Honours for the prestigious event. Mr. Chandra took them through the entire festival set-up as the coaches involved the girls in various games.

The parents and teachers from the participating schools were equally enthusiastic and some also volunteered to partake in the festival along with the girls.

Mr. Chandra was proud to see so many girls participate and the active involvement of the parents and teachers as he said, “It’s amazing to see the amount of interest shown by these girls. Big thumbs up to the schools (Sacred Heart Convent, JH Tarapore and Prem Jyoti Prangan who have been open to motivating these girls to take up sports.”

“A big thank you to the parents who have taken interest and encouraged their girl’s development in sport. It’s fantastic to see these girls come in such massive numbers. We hope to do more for girls’ football and use this grassroots festival as a stepping stone for the future.”
