Jamshedpur FC share the spoils with NorthEast United FC!

Jamshedpur FC suffered late heartbreak as NorthEast United FC equalised to hold the Steelmen to a 1-1 draw at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

A number of positives from tonight’s match that ensured signs of progress and promise, even after losing out on two points. The Furnace witnessed Farukh Choudhary’s second athletic effort of a bicycle kick this season, when Noe Acosta found the Indian forward inside the 18-yard box from the left-wing, only for Choudhary’s attempt to go over the bar. Youngster Narender Gahlot was given the coach’s nod for the second time in succession. The 18-year-old seems to have cemented his position in Coach Antonio’s starting line-up. The defensive unit comprising of Tiri, Memo, Robin, and Gahlot have been working in tandem and displayed an immense amount of depth and vigour against NorthEast United FC tonight.

Sergio Castel cast a spell in the first half of tonight’s contest when Farukh Choudhary’s cross found the Spaniard from down the right wing. The 24-year-old made no mistake in finding the back of the net on the half volley, to put the hosts in front. Sergio is currently the leading goal scorer in the ongoing season of the Indian Super League with five goals to his name. Unfortunately, tonight’s goal scorer for Jamshedpur FC was subbed off in the second half after being caught in a harsh challenge from defender Reagan Singh, making way for a pacey Aniket Jadhav.

The home team’s lead was snatched away by the Highlanders in the dying embers of the match when Asamoah Gyan’s headed pass found Panagiotis Triadis, who controlled it with composure and beat Subrata Paul to slot the ball in and equalise for the visitors. With the late match drama, NorthEast United FC have maintained their unbeaten run in the 2019-20 ISL season, and Jamshedpur FC are still unbeaten against NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League. Triadis’ goal tonight, was only the second time that the Highlanders managed to score against Jamshedpur FC, in the league.

Deservingly, Farukh Choudhary picked up the Hero of the Match award tonight, with yet another noteworthy performance from the Indian international. He posed a constant threat to the opposing defence line and got his third assist of the 2019-20 season as well.
