Kerala Blasters hold Jamshedpur FC 2-2 after dramatic comeback!

Kerala Blasters held Jamshedpur FC to a 2-2 comeback ISL draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Friday evening.

The match began with Jamshedpur FC almost taking the lead in the opening minute with Kerala Blasters FC’s goalkeeper trying to be cheeky and getting closed down by Piti. He got a touch but luckily for the hosts, the ball went out for a goal kick. The hosts regained some control just after three minutes when Seityasen Singh took the ball off a defender on the right-hand side. He curled in a delightful cross towards the centre and Mario Arques had an open header but he hit it straight to the keeper. The hosts were in control in the first 20 minutes with Cidoncha and Messi Bouli being the chief influencers for them.

Jamshedpur FC were constantly knocking on the door when Aitor Monroy found Robin Gurung with a cross-field ball and Robin released a cross for Farukh Choudhary, but TP Rehenesh was alert and came off his line to collect the ball. They were rewarded with a penalty when Tiri was pulled down by Vlatko Drobarov.

Piti stepped up and lobbed it into the centre. The half ended with Jamshedpur FC leading 0-1.

The play resumed with Kerala Blasters FC again dominating possession. Mohamad Rakip put in a nice little through ball for Seityasen Singh on the right who drilled it low towards the front post, but it missed the kick of Mario Arques. It was not cleared out properly and Sergio Cidoncha took a shot but it was off target. Jamshedpur FC substituted Piti with CK Vineeth at the 64th minute. Just when Kerala seemed to be on the brink of leveling the score, CK Vineeth scored against his former team to put the visitors 0-2 ahead at the 71st minute. Farukh Choudhary put in a delightful pass to put Vineeth through but he had a lot of work to do as the angle was tight. TP Rehenesh though rushed out and left the slightest of gaps between him and the near post. Vineeth managed to slide it through that gap and into the net.

The next 20 minutes saw the hosts dominate proceedings. Messi Bouli pulled one in for the hosts at the 75th minute. Sahal Abdul Samad from the right flank chipped it towards the far post. Bouli rose above the defender in front of him and headed it into the goal. The hosts were putting tremendous pressure on Jamshedpur FC as a flurry of shots were saved by Subrata Pal.

Just when Jamshedpur FC seemed to see the match off, Seityasen Singh was brought down by Robin Gurung in the box and Kerala Blasters were awarded a penalty. Messi Bouli stepped up and put in a thunderous penalty left off of Subrata who guessed the right way but had no chance at all. Kerala Blasters FC were looking to pull off the upset of the season but Jamshedpur FC hung on and saw the match end at 2-2.
