Kerala Blasters part ways with head coach Eelco Schattorie!

Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters FC today announced that they have parted ways with their Dutch head coach Eelco Schattorie after just one season in-charge.

Kerala Blasters wrote on Twitter, “Kerala Blasters FC have parted ways with the Head Coach, Eelco Schattorie. We’d like to thank Eelco for his efforts and services during his tenure and wish him the best for the future.”

Eelco Schattorie had joined Kerala Blasters last summer after a successful campaign with rivals NorthEast United FC and had a perfect start by winning the ISL-6 opener against eventual champions ATK in a full Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi.

But thereafter the Kerala Blasters had a long winless run and in the end they finished 7th with 19 points in the ISL-6 with only four wins in 18 matches. The club had their shares of injuries but also had strong performances by captain and top scorer Bartholomew Ogbeche or a breakthrough season by wing-back Jessel Carneiro.

With Schattorie now history at the Kerala Blasters, the club is already searching for a suitable replacement with Mohun Bagan’s I-League winning Spanish coach Kibu Vicuna being the frontrunner to take-up the head coach job.

One will have to wait and see, if Vicuna signs a contract and if he can change the fortunes of the club.
