Khalid Jamil returns to Kolkata to coach Mohun Bagan!

Former India international Khalid Jamil returned in the early hours of Monday to Kolkata to take up the coaching role at city giants Mohun Bagan.

After yesterday’s loss to Real Kashmir FC, Shankarlal Chakraborty had resigned from his post and the Mohun Bagan officials were quickly on the lookout for a suitable replacement.

They found it in Khalid Jamil, who last season had coached East Bengal Club but was sacked after he had won the I-League title sensationally with Aizawl FC and had before that spend many years coaching Mumbai FC.

Speaking on his return, Khalid Jamil said, “I am really glad to be back to Kolkata maidan. I wanted to come back here and prove myself and here’s my chance.”

“It is definitely going to be a challenging stint. We have a practice tomorrow and I will get to know things better once I meet the players tomorrow. But I am confident that our boys will put up a good show and we will bounce back in the tournament. There’s still a long way to go,” Jamil added.

Mohun Bagan are currently sixth in the table with 15 points from 11 matches, but only two wins in their last seven matches which had put a lot of pressure on head coach Shankarlal Chakraborty.
