LaLiga named Best competition of 2020 in China!

LaLiga has received the award for the “Best competition of 2020” in the prizes awarded by the Sina Weibo platform, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, and the specialized medium ScoreSport (Qiduoduo).

The Spanish competition has been chosen after weighing up the votes of experts (50%), fans (25%) and analyzing the annual metrics of Sina Weibo (25%). It shares the award with China’s local championship, the Chinese Super League.

According to the organizers, LaLiga received the award due to its commitment with digitalization and projects such as eLaLiga Fan Cup, which allowed the Chinese fans to be closer to the action.

In addition, emphasis was placed on LaLiga’s ability to organize in-person events such as the public viewing of ElClasico or the #KickOut2020 event held with Turespaña in Shanghai. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona were also recognized in these awards as two of the most influential clubs on social media in China.

“This award is a recognition of the work that, from LaLiga, we have been doing for years. 2020 was a very difficult year for everyone and we had to innovate, redouble our efforts and adapt to situations that we had not imagined. Despite everything, we managed to get the ball rolling again and we were able to get even closer to the Chinese fans, one of our great goals in the country”, Sergi Torrents, LaLiga director in China, said.

The award, which will be delivered directly to the winners after a physical ceremony was ruled out due to the pandemic, recognizes the growing importance of LaLiga and its clubs in China. In 2020, in addition to the aforementioned, LaLiga also achieved a new agreement for the broadcast of its matches with China Mobile Migu, joining the existing agreement with iQiyi Sports and allowing more fans in China to follow the Spanish competition live.
