Löw names Germany squad for England friendly & FIFA World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan!

DFB logoGermany coach Joachim Löw has named his 24 player Germany squad for the international friendly against old rivals England in Dortmund on March 22 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan in Baku on March 26.

Getting his maiden call-up to the Germany squad is RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, while Lukas Podolski will play his farewell match against England in his 130th international game for Germany.

Ahead of Poldi’s last game, coach Löw said, “It’s great that Lukas will say goodbye in such a wonderful way. It’s a worthy farewell, and one that he deserves. Matches against England are always real classics, on top of that in front of the fantastic fans in Dortmund. I assume that there will be a really fantastic atmosphere.”

Missing from the squad are Jerome Boateng (just recovered from injury, lacks match practice) and Mario Götze (injured), while regulars return to the squad.

Speaking about the young forward, Joachim Löw said, “Werner is a young and interesting player with good potential. He is very versatile and has played consistently at a high level this season. I’m pleased to welcome him into the set-up and to be able to observe him.”
