Macau not to travel to Sri Lanka for their 2022 FIFA World Cup/2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifier!

The Asian Football Confederation has been informed today, June 10 by the Macau Football Association that their national team will not travel to Sri Lanka for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 second-leg match scheduled for Colombo tomorrow.

Earlier Macau had in an official statement said, “Due to the recent terrorist attack in Sri Lanka and for the sake of the team’s personal safety, we have been in contact with FIFA, AFC and Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) to discuss and negotiate that this match to be played in neutral country.”

But the request to play the second leg at a neutral venue was not accepted by FIFA or the AFC.

The AFC will now refer this matter to FIFA and the appropriate AFC committees.
