Maharashtra thump Daman & Diu in Sub-Junior Nationals (West Zone)!

Maharashtra hammered eight past Daman & Diu in the Sub-Junior Nationals for Boys (West Zone), organised by Goa Football Association (GFA) in collaboration with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), played at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Tuesday.

Arya Kumar scored four goals while Zeeyan, Shane, Anurag were the other goal scorers for Maharashtra. Jaydeep scored an own goal for Daman.

The 8-0 win against Daman & Diu meant, Goa now need a draw against the final encounter against Maharashtra to qualify from Group A.

Following their 10-0 defeat against Goa, Daman & Diu were in the must win match, however, Maharashtra didn’t take long to open the account when Zeeyan connect Nathan Murzello corner kick to slam the ball past the helpless keeper.

Few minutes later Rushabh Singh tried a shot for Maharashtra which was well held onto by Daman & Diu keeper Abhishek Singh.

In the 13th minute, Shane Aranha netted the second one for his team by curling a lovely free-kick in the top left corner. Abhishek Singh could’ve done better on this occasion to deny him.

Up by two goals, Maharashtra pressed to find more goals but Adityan Prithviraj made a stunning goal line clearance for Daman & Diu to deny Nathan Murzello their third. Shubham Chafe was booked by the referee for a tackle on Daman & Diu goalie. Moments later Athar Ansari missed a sitter for Maharashtra after Nihal found him from the flanks.

In yet another attacking chance, Maharashtra’s Nihal Dudwadkar crossed the ball to Athar Ansari this time he directed his header towards the goal but it was well saved by rival custodian Abhishek Singh. At half time the scoreboard read 2-0.

Post resumption, Maharashtra seemed hungry for more goals to better their goal difference but Daman & Diu had tightened their defence even more.

Maharashtra’s Rishabh Singh had a shot at goal which hit the goal post and went out of play.

Nihal’s goal was disallowed after he was deemed to be offside. Arya Kumar netted Maharashtra’s third with a fine shot. Moments later he scored his second with a wonderful dummy move as he shot the ball into the nets, sending the keeper in the wrong direction. Daman & Diu’s defender Jaydeep Haresh scored an own goal in an attempt to clear the ball.

Shane Aranha looked to score yet another free-kick for Maharashtra but to his dismay Daman & Diu keeper Abhishek Singh did well to parry his shot to safety.

Arya Kumar completed his hat-trick after taking a shot off Nathan Murzello’s cross from the right flank.

Moments later Anurag scored with a right footed grounder way beyond the keeper’s reach. Arya Kumar netted yet another one by calmly placing the ball in the goal. Nathan Murzello’s shot kissed the crossbar and went out of play.
