Minerva Academy FC lifted the Pundrik Football Tournament trophy in Haryana after beating Gurdaspur FC in the final.
Minerva Academy FC played their first match on February 18, where they beat Khaoak Jotha FC by a 3-0 margin. Jayanada Singh scored a long range right footer to take the lead followed by two more goals from Shreyas V.G.
Their second match on February 19 saw Anwar Ali and Sheyas V.G score absolute stunners to seal a 3-1 victory against Khaoak Jotha FC.
Minerva Academy faced Bhuna FC in their third match of the tournament on February 20 which went down to the penalties. Suraj Malik’s crucial fourth penalty save sealed Minerva Academy FC a must win to reach to the semifinals to be played on February 21.
The semifinal was a breath taker as the opponent team, S11 Delhi scored in the second minute to take a 1-0 lead. A good through ball from Amarjit converted by Lalrinchhana Lallawmpuia equalized the score in the 8th minute. Minerva Academy FC created chance after chance but failed to capitalize. But in the 35th minute, Anwar Ali’s clearance was misjudged by the opponent defender that ended into an own goal. Shreyash V.G scored two more goals in the second half to seal a spot in the final against Gurdaspur FC who beat the home team Pundri FC in the semifinals.
Minerva Academy FC went high on confidence into the final, but they started slow as Gurdaspur FC dominated the first few minutes. Lalrinchhana Lallawmpuia came very close to scoring the first goal of the match but the ball went out of target. A corner saw Anwar Ali leap into the air and head the ball towards the goal while it touched the defender’s hand and Minerva Academy FC won a penalty. A right footed ground shot by Anwar went into the net as Minerva Academy FC took a 1-0 lead. A tight defence from them stopped Gurdaspur FC from scoring a goal in the second half as Minerva Academy FC won the title.
