Minerva Punjab FC from Chandigarh are the new 2017/18 I-League champions following in the footsteps of last seasons champions Mizoram-based side Aizawl FC!
The 2017/18 I-League title race reached its climax today, March 8 with four clubs going into the final and 18th matchday with a chance of still winning the title.
The mathematics were easy but so complicated, then in football one never knows the outcome of a match and with four teams in the fray in three matches, one goal here and there could change the outcome of a whole season.
In the end, Minerva Punjab FC needed a win and they got it through a 1-0 victory over Churchill Brothers SC, who themselves with the loss were relegated to the Second Division League; while the other two matches in East Bengal Club and NEROCA FC as well as Gokulam Kerala FC and Mohun Bagan AC both ended in 1-1 draws.
My congratulations to Minerva Punjab FC, the owners, staff, coaches & players as well as their fans!!!
