Minerva Punjab FC U-15s cruise past United Punjab Football Academy in 5-0 win!

Minerva Punjab FC unbeaten in the group, defeated United Punjab Football Academy with a 5-0 margin to remain top of the group with 12 points from four matches in the Hero Junior League (U-15 Youth League) – Punjab Zone.

Minerva Punjab FC travelled to the UPFC Campus in Pathankot to play their fourth match in the Hero Junior League. Minerva Punjab FC were without four of their star players as they have been called-up to the Indian U-16 squad in Goa, preparing for the upcoming India U-16 tour of Italy. These four players are Himashu Jangra, Tongram Mehson, Ayush and Harshvardhan.

United Punjab Football Academy started the first half with a one-on-one opportunity in the 3rd minute but were denied by a brilliant save from Charles. From here on, Minerva Punjab FC took the control of the match and almost scored from a very good free kick from Bikash Youmnam in the 5th minute which was saved by the opposition goalkeeper.

In the 16th minute, Minerva Punjab FC’s young winger, Aphaoba Singh went through 3 United Punjab Football Academy defenders but failed to connect properly and just shot wide of the post. Minerva Punjab FC kept most of the possession in the first half with many half chances without scoring. In the 44th minute, the deadlock was finally broken with an own goal from the United Punjab Football Academy defender who was unable to deal with a long throw from Minervan centreback Bikash. The first half finished with a score of 1-0 in favour of Minerva Punjab FC.

Minerva Punjab FC continued attacking from both wings in the 2nd half. United Punjab Football Academy were punished for their reckless defending when Amir Hussain was sent off in the 64th minute for a second yellow card offense.

In the 72nd minute, Samson was brought down inside the box and Minerva were awarded a penalty which Samson converted to give Minerva Punjab FC a 2-0 lead. Minerva Punjab FC added two more goals in quick succession with Veishalou S Pao scoring a brace in 88th and 90th minute. Kamesh added one more goal in the injury time. Minerva Punjab FC finished the match with a huge 5-0 victory at full time.

With this victory, Minerva Punjab FC sit on the top od the Punjab Zone table having secured the maximum 12 points available in the four matches played so far. Minerva Punjab FC have now scored 18 goals without conceding a single one in the group so far.

Next up, Minerva Punjab will travel to YFC Rurka Kalan Stadium to take on Youth Football Club on April 27.
