Mizoram Premier League: Chhinga Veng FC roll past Chanmari West FC!

Chhinga Veng FC came out on top in a rematch of the MFA Super Cup 2017 final with a 3-0 victory against Chanmari West FC. Chhinga Veng lead the table with 6 points where as Chanmari West FC are yet to open their account.

This is the third time the MFA Super Cup and I-Day champions and last year’s MPL semifinalists have met this season with Chhinga Veng FC managing to put five past the West Warriors in the MFA Super Cup and I-Day tournaments.

Both teams began the match with great energy in an entertaining opening stage with a lot of back and forth action. Vanlallawma and R. Malsawmtluanga both forced saves from Chanmari West FC’s custodian Hriata while Mawitea came close at the other end for Chanmari West FC. Chhinga Veng FC’s goalkeeper was also called into action by the West Warriors.

Malsawmfela and Vanlallawma missed chances to give Chhinga Veng FC the lead before half-time.

The I-Day champions Chhinga Veng FC began the second half on the front foot after changing their shape, and looked more threatening. And it was Vanlallawma who struck the first blow in the 53rd minute after taking advantage of an error from Chanmari West FC goalkeeper.

The goal seemed to kick CVFC into another gear and they tormented the West Warriors’ backline time and again. They doubled their lead in the in the 63rd minute when R. Malsawmtluanga guided Malsawmfela’s brilliant delivery from the right. The scorer turned provider four minutes later when he freed up Malsawmfela and the striker netting a beautiful shot.

Chanmari West FC kept on pushing till the final whistle but they could not find a consolation goal as Chhinga Veng FC stayed tight to see out the game.

Playmaker R. Malsawmtluanga was named man of the match for the second game in a row after grabbing a goal and an assist.

Chhinga Veng FC will face Aizawl FC next week while Chanmari West FC square off against Ramhlun North FC.
