Mohammedan Sporting sign Nigerian forward Raphael Ownrebe!

Mohammedan Sporting Club have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Raphael Ownrebe from Bangladesh Premier League side Sheikh Russel KC, on a deal that keeps him with the Black Panthers till the end of the season.

The 27-year-old, who had been plying his trade in the Bangladesh since 2017, have won successive golden boot awards in Bangladesh Premier League.

Raphael made his debut in Bangladesh football in the 2017-18 season with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi and scored 15 goals. Continuing with the BPL, he went on to represent Sheikh Russel in the following season and finished with 22 goals.

The forward is also comfortable playing on either flank was excited ahead of joining the Black Panthers in what will be his first stint in India.

Mohammedan Sporting general secretary Wasim Akram described the Nigerian as a top-class player.

“Raphael has a proven track-record when it comes to scoring and this is an area we needed to strengthen on the squad. We believe he can have a huge impact on our season,” he said.

Raphael is Mohammedan Sporting’s second overseas signing ahead of the forthcoming I-League season after the Panthers got on board Mohammed Fatau earlier in the week.

The club has also acquired the services of midfielder Altamash Sayed, who played for Bhwanipore FC in the recently concluded I-League qualifier. Sayed began his career in the youth ranks of Mumbai FC. He soon joined the Pune FC Academy and played with the club in the Youth I-League. Before stints at Minerva Punjab FC, Bengaluru FC and Real Kashmir FC.
