Mohammedan Sporting Club beat follow Calcutta Premier Division outfit Rainbow Athletic Club 2-1 in their first pre-season friendly at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Friday, July 14.

It was Rainbow AC who took the lead against the run of the play. However, the Black Panthers fought back through goals from Nigerian defender Richard Agwu Somtochukwu and striker Manandeep Singh to seal a 2-1 comeback win.

Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya opted for a 4-4-2 formation and utilized more than 20 players throughout the game.

Mohammedan Sporting were in control of the game from the start, building their attacks from the flanks and within the first 20 minutes they missed two clear chances through Manandeep and Sheikh Faiaz. While Mohammedan Sporting pressed high up, Rainbow AC managed to take the lead against the run of the play at the other end capitalizing on a defensive error.

The Black Panthers came out all guns blazing in the second-half. The pressure paid off as Mohammedan Sporting finally restored parity midway through the half when Richard headed home off a corner.

Encouraged by the goal, Mohammedan Sporting grew in confidence and attacked in droves in a bid to take the lead. Their efforts paid off as Manandeep picked the ball from the centre of the field, raced forward before unleashing a hefty drive to add his name to the scorers list.

Meanwhile, experienced striker Dipendu Biswas, who is just one goal away from reaching 250 career goals, has joined training from today.
