Mohammedan Sporting’s Jose Hevia: Every game we play to win!

Mohammedan Sporting Club will look to bounce back to winning ways when they take on TRAU FC in their I-League encounter at Kalyani Stadium on Tuesday.

The match is slated for a 4pm kick-off and will be broadcast LIVE on 1Sports with online streaming available on 1Sports’ Facebook page.

The Black Panthers are currently in third place on the log with four points from two matches, and head coach Jose Hevia is keen for his players to build on their previous two outings.

“We just want to keep adding to our performances. We have said after game one that we want to get better, and after game two we want to get better for game three,” he said.

Hevia will have to strategise and break the flow of TRAU’s possession-based style, as they have averaged almost 55% possession in their games so far. The defensive resilience of the likes of Eze Kingsley, Asheer Akhtar and Hira Mondal will have to be on display to deny TRAU’s forward men, that comprises Komron Tursunov and Bidyashagar Singh among others with Joseph Olaleye pulling the strings from midfield.

At the other end, Mohammedan Sporting need to find their shooting boots, having netted only once in their first two matches. The Black Panthers have had no qualms in creating the opportunities in front of goal, but it is the conversion and decisive moments that they have been found lacking in.

“It worries any team if you don’t score. We have to work on it as much as we can,” Hevia said. “We have been doing well, but we have to convert our chances. We are missing a lot of chances and if we were to convert our chances we would be talking a different story now. But we are not looking down as a team. We are positive and we are not giving up.”

The gaffer made it clear that they are going to approach the game with a more patient lookout as they will prefer to read their opponents before hurling the attacks on TRAU. Hevia holds the Manipur-outfit in high esteem but he is confident his side will be able to deal with any challenge thrown at them.

“TRAU is full of energy. They have a lot of good players. You have to give them respect. It’s not going to be easy against them but every game we play to win. We have prepared well for the occasion,” Hevia explained.

According to Hevia there is a healthy competition for places within the Mohammedan squad and every player is desperate to impress the technical team.

For the record, when these two teams faced each other last time Mohammedan Sporting thrashed TRAU 6-0 in a Second Division League encounter in March 2018.
