Mohun Bagan score late CFL win over Mohammedan Sporting in Kolkata derby!

The first Kolkata derby of the 2017 Calcutta Football League – Premier Division ‘A’ ended in dramatic fashion as Mohun Bagan AC scored a late 2-1 winner over Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Monday afternoon.

An inform Sheikh Faiaz gave Mohammedan Sporting a surprise 22nd minute lead against the run of play with Mohun Bagan having more of the ball and the action. And the green and maroon upped their pressure on the Black Panthers defence, but it was only breached in the 38th minute when Azharuddin Mallick scored. It stayed 1-1 at the break.

After the break talented Mohammedan Sporting goalkeeper Shankar Roy kept his side in the game and was awarded rightly the man of the match award, but in injury time a cross from substitute Chesterpaul Lyngdoh met the head of Azharuddin Mallick to result in the 2-1 winner for Mohun Bagan.

With this win, Mohun Bagan move to the top of the standings with now 19 points from seven matches, while Mohammedan Sporting stay on 10 points from six matches and are now out of the title race.
