Mumbai City FC re-sign centre-back Anwar Ali from ATK!

Indian Super League franchise Mumbai City FC have announced the return of centre-back Anwar Ali from ATK for the 2018/19 season.

33 year old Rurka Kalan-born Anwar Ali is a product of the Rurka Kalan Academy, who went to play for some of the biggest clubs in India, even making it to the Indian national team.

Anwar Ali is a defender recognised for his dominance in aerial battles who kicked off his senior career with Punjab Police, then switched to JCT where he made a bright start by bagging the Most Promising Player award in the Durand Cup 2006. His dominant performances in Dempo SC and Mohun Bagan got him selected into the Indian national team where he was the rock at the center of the defence that propelled India on a winning spree in the late 2000s, even representing India at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.

Thereafter he became a journeyman and played for United Sikkim FC, Mumbai FC (twice), Delhi Dynamos, once more at Mohun Bagan, Mumbai City FC, East Bengal Club and ATK before now returning to Mumbai City FC for a second stint in the maximum city.
