Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered an opening day Calcutta Football League – Premier Division ‘A’ upset by losing 2-4 to newcomers Pathachakra at the Kalyani Stadium on Sunday.
In the first session, Mohammedan Sporting had more of possession but it was Pathachakra who went ahead in the 36th minute through Joel Sunday, who was hit by a miscued clearance and Pathachakra took the lead into the break.
Things got even worse for Mohammedan Sporting as a Monotosh Chakladar header made it 0-2 for Pathachakra in the 58th minute, but the Black Panthers showed morale with new striker Aser Dipanda Dicka scoring two quick goals in the 64th and 67th minute to equalise the match.
The result only lasted three minutes as Babun Das restored Pathachakra’s lead with an own effort and it was Babun Das again in the 83rd minute to seal the match and all three points on a historic day for the newcomers.
For Mohammedan Sporting it was an unnecessary defeat which could have been avoided if they had scored of their chances especially in the first session.
