NorthEast United FC sign Didier Zokora as their marquee for ISL-3!

NorthEast United FCIndian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC have signed midfielder Didier Zokora from the Ivory Coast as their marquee player for the third season of the ISL.

35 year old Abidjan born Déguy Alain Didier Zokora returns for the second time to the Indian Super League, but switches clubs as he joins NorthEast United FC for ISL-3 after having played for FC Pune City in ISL-2.

Zokora started his career with the at Académie MimoSifcom in Abidjan before he signed his first professional contract with Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas in 1999. Only a year later he moved to Europe to join Belgian Jupiter League side Racing Genk and he spend four very successful years with them. In 2004 He moved to French Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Étienne and after a strong performance for Ivory Coast at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Zokora was signed by Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

After three years in London, Zokora signed for Spanish La Liga side FC Sevilla and spend two seasons with them before making a switch to Turkish Süperlig side Trabzonspor in 2011. After three seasons in Trabzon, he moved after Turkish side in Akhisar Belediyespor before moving to India to join FC Pune City in 2015.

Zokora, a defensive midfielder, is the most capped Ivory Coast international till date but has only scored one goal for his country, a goal against Botswana in 2008 in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
