The East Zone qualifiers of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship kicked off at the Ravenshaw University Ground in Cuttack with hosts Odisha winning 3-0 against SAI.
Odisha went ahead early in the 11th minute through a Ashanta Kerketa goal with their lead doubled by Bekeya Oram in the 27th minute. It stayed 2-0 for Odisha at the break.
In the second session the hosts continued to dominate and it was again Ashanta Kerketa, who made it 3-0 in the 71st minute and it would stay this way until the final whistle.
Prior to the match at the inaugural ceremony Asirbad Behera (OCA Ex-Secretary) was present as the Chief guest while Manmit Singh Goindi (Director – Sports Authority of India) and Dr. Dharmabrata Mahapatra (Vice-President – Ravenshaw Athletic Club) were present as the Guests of Honour.
