The 2nd AFC National Coaches Conference 2019 ended on a high note on Wednesday in the capital city of Malaysia, as front-line coaches and technical directors in Asia exchanged tactical ideas and coaching experience in the three-day conference.
Participants from AFC’s Member Associations including 2019 AFC Asian Cup winning coach Félix Sánchez of Qatar and runner-up Hajime Moriyasu of Japan attended the major event.
The conference focused on a range of topics from media management, to the player’s viewpoint as well as FIFA’s perspective, with Branimir Ujevic, FIFA Head of Coaching & Player Development, sharing his insights on the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
Former South Korea captain Park Ji-sung also shared about his experience of playing for his national team and at the club level in Europe with PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United.
The 2nd AFC National Coaches Conference, which was opened by AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, also saw Sánchez sharing his views and tactical approach which led to Qatar’s success at the AFC Asian Cup.
Sánchez said, “This was an interesting conference because when we are playing in a competition, we don’t have this time to share our thoughts and views in football with other coaches. It is a good time to share experiences with different coaches from other countries.”
““This is a good opportunity for me to share how and why Qatar was so successful in the AFC Asian Cup. It is interesting to talk about football and the things we did, so other teams here can learn and add on to what we have to say.”
“This conference is valuable for other coaches to have an idea of what other coaches are doing. At the end of the day, small or big countries, you have to be realistic and have a plan and goal which you want to reach. It is a good place for all coaches to learn and get new ideas from other national teams.”
Michael Kim, South Korea assistant coach, said the 2nd AFC National Coaches Conference was a great platform for all coaches in Asia to exchange ideas and learn.
Kim added, “It is always beneficial for us coaches to gather and discuss about coaching and tactical ideas. Personally, this was an enriching and a big learning experience. It was good to meet new faces and coaches from all parts of Asia because you get to share tactics and systems with each other.”
The conference concluded with the ‘big interviews’ with Sánchez and the recently appointed Technical Director of the Chinese Football Association Chris Van Puyvelde talking about their plans for the future of the development of the game in their countries.
