People across the world follow Bundesliga’s ‘Der Klassiker’!

‘Der Klassiker’ between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund on November 9, 2019 once again drew interest from around the world with many fans tuning in to the match, making it one of the world’s most popular games in club football.

The match was broadcast to over 200 FIFA member countries using advanced technology which provided world-class TV production. In addition to national media partners covering the game, 15 international TV partners broadcasted live from the Allianz Arena in Munich. Furthermore the DFL subsidiary Bundesliga International and both clubs organised more than 80 watch parties in over 30 countries, which were partly attended by Bundesliga and club legends.

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, over 6,000 fans attended a Bundesliga Experience event held together with Fox Sports Brasil on the city’s famous Ipanema beach. The Brazilian Bundesliga legends Ze Roberto, Tinga, Paulo Sergio and Juan joined fans for a number of football activities and watched the ‘Klassiker’ on a big screen.

In Guangzhou, China, former FC Bayern München striker Giovane Élber celebrated the game with hundreds of fans. In Tokyo, Japan, former Borussia Dortmund striker Jan Koller followed the action with Japanese fans, also accompanying them on a tour of the capital city. In Kochi, India, Patrick Owomoyela, Koller’s former teamate at Borussia Dortmund, watched the game with Indian fans.

In Pretoria, South Africa, the former Bundesliga star and South Africa striker Sibusiso Zuma joined fans for a watch party. In Bangkok, Thailand, World Cup winner and FC Bayern München legend Klaus Augenthaler took part in a ‘Klassiker’ event held in partnership with the Bundesliga’s official Thai broadcaster.

Further events took place in the USA, Cuba, Panama, Colombia, Mexico, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Ukraine, Hungary, Dubai, Vietnam and Singapore with other ‘Klassiker’ viewing parties also held in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria and Indonesia. ‘Der Klassiker’ returns on Matchday 28 next April, when Borussia Dortmund face Bayern München at home.
