A new podcast on Indian football has been launched under the curious name of 420grams featuring the host Arjun Pandit and Mayanti Langer as his guest.
If you’ve watched sport on TV in India chances are you recognise her face and voice. If you’re watching the Australian cricket team rub India’s noses in the dirt tracks of our homeland, Mayanti Langer will be in on screens in the break, analysing the session’s play with the big boys in the Star Sports studios. She has now presented five World Cups to Indian audiences in three different sports. Her Twitter cover photo is one from the Indian Super League, chatting with Alessandro del Piero. Very few, though, might know that Langer’s successful career in television began more by chance than design. It coincided with the early days of professional football in India and both Langer and the sport, at least from a TV perspective, grew together. What you also probably don’t know is that our man Arjun Pandit was a big part of Langer’s early days India’s football girl. In this quite witty, mildly sexist (not really) and very personal conversation Pandit and Langer revisit the simplicity of those days, the Zee-bras, their graduation to cricket and how sport (mostly football) has impacted even their personal relationships.
