Referees set for AFC Referee Academy Introductory Module III!

Aspiring elite referees are set for yet another step up as the participants of the AFC Referee Academy Introductory batch 2017 begins Module III at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday, July 20.

Divided into two small-sized groups, 20 participants in Group 1 will participate in the programme on July 20 to 24, while July 26 to 30 will see 18 participants in Group 2.

Module III will continue to build on the existing knowledge of the referees, focusing on their technical, physical and psychological preparation based on the guidance of world-renowned educators.

From the technical aspect, the participants will be updated with the latest amendments to the Laws of the Game, effective from June 1, 2018. Having covered a total of eight laws in the previous modules, Law 1, 2 and 4 will now be introduced.

The Academy curriculum also places priority on maintaining and improving the referees’ fitness level. In Module III, the participants will benefit from the fitness educators’ first-hand insights, sharing on match fitness preparation, travel challenges and strategies for referees, as well as advice on how to cope with officiating in extreme weather conditions.

Supplementary to the curriculum in between modules, the referees have completed a total of 28 weekly assignments since Module I last November.

Up to now, the main highlights of the Academy groundbreaking syllabus are: interactive classroom discussions in small-sized groups; real-match based practical sessions; Yo-Yo Intermittent Test conducted at all modules to raise the referees’ high-intensity performance and measuring their fitness progress; gymnasium sessions on strength training and injury prevention; referees’ condition monitoring based on scientific parameters and relevant body indicators; long-term and customised psychological preparation integrating all essential factors of refereeing; breathing technique lessons, match mental preparation, and personal goalsetting; and novel online exercises.

Upon completion of the last module of the introductory level in September 2018, the participants will undergo a final assessment to be granted their progression to the intermediate stage.
