Delhi Dynamos and FC Pune City will both look to continue their resurgence as they face each other at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune on Sunday. Delhi Dynamos come into this game on the back of a five game unbeaten run while Pune are undefeated in six.
The last time these two sides met was the first game for both the clubs where Rana Gharami’s stunner gave Delhi Dynamos the lead but it was cancelled out by a late FC Pune City goal to hand the visitors a point in New Delhi. A lot has changed since then for the hosts today as they come into this game under their third manager of the season, Englishman Phil Brown.
Brown has continued the good work done by former manager Pradyum Reddy and FC Pune City’s potent attack will be a point of concern for the Delhi Dynamos heading into this game.
“We know they have a strong attack and it will be a good challenge for our defense. The likes of Robin, Hume, Ashique and Marcelinho are quick and are good with shooting from distance as well so we are expecting a tough fight,” Delhi Dynamos head coach Josep Gombau said.
Gombau’s side have lacked a potent striker upfront this season but the form of Daniel Lahlimpuia will be a big boost coming into this game. The forward scored twice in the last match against Bengaluru FC, helping the Lions come from behind to register a win. Daniel has three goals so far and is the second highest Indian goalscorer in terms of strikers after Sunil Chhetri.
Delhi Dynamos come into this game on the back of a few injury concerns as Bikramjit Singh and Nandhakumar Sekar are out due to injuries sustained in the previous fixtures, but Gombau is confident that their replacements will do a good job.
“We have a few injury concerns but this is a very motivated squad and I am confident that whoever steps up as their replacement will do a good job.”
The last time Delhi Dynamos faced FC Pune City in Pune they registered a thrilling 3-2 win under then head coach Miguel Angel Portugal.
