Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters FC has announced the contract extension of India internatonal midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad for a period of three additional years until summer 2025.
The 23-year-old from Kannur, joined Kerala Blasters FC in the year 2017 and was quick to make it to the first team, having displayed an impressive performance during the Second Division League, as part of the Kerala Blasters FC Reserve Team that finished as Group Champions.
The attacking midfielder, fondly referred to as the ‘Indian Ozil’ by fans, has shown amazing technique and creativity on the field during ISL – Season 5. This gained him an opportunity to debut for the National team in the U-23 friendly match against Qatar in Doha and further play at the AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers before playing for the India senior team during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Sahal Abdul Samad said, “Football has always been my biggest passion and commitment since childhood. From the very start of my professional career, I have really enjoyed adorning the KBFC crest and playing in front of the loudest fans. My journey with the sport has just begun and I hope to achieve greater feats for the club and for myself in the years to come. This is my state, my people and my home. I’m here to continue.”
Kerala Blasters FC sporting director Karolis Skinkys said, “Sahal’s stay with the club is a re-affirmation of his commitment to the state of Kerala and a huge responsibility too. While we are extremely happy to have him as a part of the club for the next 5 years, I’m equally elated for our fans, who will get a chance to enjoy the game of our maestro in the upcoming seasons. This state has produced a number of football legends and we are committed to be the torchbearers in developing and nurturing young local talent, thereby reinforce the legacy of Kerala towards the sport.”
