Salgaocar FC overpowered Sporting Clube de Goa and topped the group in style in their Goa Under-16 encounter played in Cansaulim. Before kick off both the teams were on equal points with Salgaocar’s having an advantage on goal difference.
The entire match was played with high intensity, but it was Vellyo Silva, the Goalkeeper of The Green Brigades who was the real show stopper who protected his team goal right till the end.
It was early in the 4th minute when defender Kyle D’Cruz sent in a long ball right from the defence to Samward Pereira who controlled the ball beautifully and finished in style putting the Greens in front. But Sporting Goa did not let the goal get the better of them, striker Rohit Tutad put their side in level terms with a strike in the 20th minute. At the break the game was tied at one-all.
On resumption the match could have gone either way, but the way Salgaocar Junior keeper Vellyo Silva kept his goal clean in the second session. It was in the 64th minute when midfielder Aman Rajbhar put a lofted cross to Aaron Barreto who blasted the ball as he received it which the Sporting Goa keeper who tried his best to keep the shot out was all in vein as the power in the shot was enough for the ball to go into the back of the nets.
As it all seemed done and dusted for Salgaocar FC, Sevon Costa hammered the last nail into the Sporting Goa coffin with a thunderous strike from 50 yards out which rattled the inside of the crossbar and went in making it a perfect win for the The Green brigades.
