Saudi Arabia eyes futsal excellence with AFC support!

Saudi Arabia has taken its first steps in futsal development, with the AFC’s futsal assessment visit that began on Thursday, November 8.

The AFC delegation was welcomed by Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) General Secretary Ibrahim S. Alkassim, who emphasised that both football and futsal are important in the West Asian country and extended full support towards the progress of the game, beginning with the assessment visit.

“I believe there is plenty of room for improvement in the development of futsal, therefore, we would request the AFC to assist us in developing the game in Saudi Arabia,” said Alkassim.

The AFC delegation, led by AFC Futsal and Beach Soccer Development Officer Jacob Joseph Biggs, firstly, congratulated SAFF on its latest achievement of clinching the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship title in Indonesia last Sunday, before addressing the importance of futsal as a foundation for football.

Biggs added, “Saudi Arabia has great potential to prevail in Asia.”

“Futsal is the foundation and a strong tool for developing football players, and we will do our utmost best to assist the SAFF in all areas to ensure the sport a successful track record in the country.”

The five-day visit will comprise meetings with stakeholders, as well as field visits and inspections.
