JN Petit Technical School, Pawar Public School and SSPMS Boarding made it to the knockouts of the Bajaj Allianz-Aspire India School 5s Under-12 Invitational football tournament, at the Freekick Turfs, Mundhwa on Wednesday.
In the morning session, JN Petit Technical School walked through Group M1 after beating Ornellas HS 3-0 in the only match of the group after Vibgyor NIBM made a “no show.”
Ornellas HS still have an outside chance of qualifying as the second best team.
In the four-team Group M3, Hadapsar-based Pawar Public School scored three wins and finished with 9 points.
Pawar Public School began their campaign winning a seven-goal thriller against SSPMS Boarding, which in fact turned out to be the group decider. SSPMS ended with 6 points owing to the loss and two wins against Ideal School, Hadapsar (7-0) and Hume McHenry (4-2).
The 4-3 scoreline that PawarPublic School-SSPMS ended with also turned out to be the highest match aggregate to be recorded during the day.
SSPMS, however, did have their share of glory with Harshvardhan Pawar netting six goals to emerge top scorer of the tournament after two days of competition.
The day also marked the debut of Hadapsar-based Ideal English Medium School, one of the four under privileged schools playing in the tournament. Though Ideal School ended up with the ‘wooden spoon’ in their group by losing all their matches, they put up a brave show against the seasoned Pawar Public School.
Ideal School went down 1-3 in what was their best match among all the three played during the day.
Hume McHenry, the fourth team of Group M3, turned out to be ‘unlucky,’ losing to Pawar Public School 0-1 in a crucial match towards the end of the day. The loss pushed them to third position.
