Schweinsteiger voted Captain for the MLS All-Star Game against Real Madrid!

Major League Soccer last week had announced that Chicago Fire midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been voted captain of the MLS All-Stars following the annual fan Snapchat vote. Schweinsteiger will wear the captain’s armband as the best in MLS face Spanish giants Real Madrid in the 2017 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target on Wednesday, August 2 at Soldier Field in Chicago (8:30pm ET, FS1, Univision, TSN, TVA Sports).

For the third year running, fans submitted their choice for captain by viewing the MLS Snapchat story and taking a screenshot to cast their vote. This season, the three candidates, nominated by All-Star head coach Veljko Paunovic, included Tim Howard (Colorado Rapids), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Chicago Fire), and David Villa (New York City FC).

Former Germany captain Schweinsteiger has played a crucial part in the Fire’s resurgence this season, tallying five assists and two goals in 16 matches thus far in his first MLS campaign. The former Bayern Munich and Manchester United star has helped the Fire to a current second-place position in the Eastern Conference standings, two points behind Toronto FC, and Chicago is one of only four teams still boasting an unbeaten home record this season at 9-0-1.
