Second Division League: Bengaluru FC ‘B’ hammer Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ 6-1!

Parag Shrivas’ hattrick (4′, 44′, 68′) powered Bengaluru FC ‘B’ to a massive 6-1 win over neighbours Chennaiyin FC FC ‘B’ in a Second Division League encounter at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Saturday. Lalengzama Vangchhia (49′), Naorem Roshan Singh (55′) and Lalrintluanga Chawnglut (57′) too got on the scoresheet as the Blue Colts (17 points) romped to their fifth win of the campaign, reclaiming top spot in the Group-C standings.

Coach Naushad Moosa made four changes going into the final home game of the campaign as Nishu Kumar, Namgyal Bhutia, Lalengzama and Parag all started against the Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ side.

It was the Blue Colts who began attacking from the start and it took just under four minutes for them to break the deadlock. Nishu floated in a good ball from the right flank to Lalengzama who controlled down the middle and lobbed a pass towards Parag. The striker timed his run well to bring down the ball on the right in the box and smash it home at the far post with a low effort for his second goal of the campaign.

Bengaluru FC ‘B’ continued the forward push throughout the first half and it was only in the 44th minute that they finally got the second. Parag outjumped his marker to head home Namyal Bhutia’s cross in from the left for his second of the afternoon to make it 2-0 at half time.

The second half got off to a flying start, as the Blue Colts struck inside four minutes. Lalrintluanga dispossessed an opponent before setting up Lalengzama on the right who finished with a calm effort at the far post.

Ten minutes later the home side struck twice in quick succession to make it 5-0. First it was Naorem who capitalized on a defensive error in the rival box to smash home from close and then it was Lalrintluanga who netted on Parag’s set up off Nsihu’s cross.

In the 68th minute, Parag completed his hattrick with a well-taken effort on Namgyal’s cross in from the right as the Blue Colts took their tally to six, their most in a single game this season. Just as he did in the first leg, skipper Prosenjit Chakraborty pulled one back for Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ in the 77th minute as the game ended 6-1.

Bengaluru FC ‘B’ take on Jamshedpur FC Reserves up next on May 9 as they head away for their final two fixtures.
