Sir Robin Knox-Johnston joins iSportconnect Directors’ Club!

iSportconnect has announced that Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Co-Founder and Chairman of Clipper Round The World Yacht Race, as a guest speaker at the Christmas Directors’ Club in London on December 6, 2018.

It will be a timely appearance by Sir Robin, whose autobiography, Running Free, has just been published by Simon & Schuster.

It has been 50 years since he set off from Falmouth in England in a race to be the first person to sail solo, non-stop around the planet.

With no sponsorship and many people having written him off before he even started, and with his yacht, Suhaili, packed to the gunwales with supplies, it was a voyage that was to last just over ten months.

Of the nine competitors that started out in the attempt, Sir Robin was the only person to finish the challenge. He arrived back in Falmouth after 312 days at sea to legendary international acclaim, forever stamping his position in sporting history.

Sir Robin, along with business partner William Ward, went on to found the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, which trains everyday people to sail around the world – a challenge fewer people have completed than have climbed Mount Everest.

The first race was held in 1996, and over the last 22 years and eleven race editions, over 5,000 people have been trained to become ocean racers.

The race, which visits 13 cities across six different continents, has meanwhile developed itself as a powerful global marketing platform as like-minded brands and destination partners align with the race’s adventurous spirit, teamwork and mental fortitude.

The Christmas Directors’ Club, taking place at Dentons in the City, will also proudly feature Steve Elworthy, Managing Director of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
