Sporting Clube de Goa emerge U-20 TACA League Champions!

Sporting Clube de Goa remained unbeaten in the TACA Goa U-20 League to emerge champions as they played out a goalless draw in their ultimate league match against Dempo SC at the Artificial Turf, Fatorda in Margao on Monday.

Both teams played neck to neck as they cancelled out each other’s chances. Sporting Goa being unbeaten in the campaign went into the game positively as they aimed at taking all points from this league but the Dempo side gave them a tough fight and both teams headed goalless at half-time.

Post resumption, the teams displayed some fine football on field and created some potent attacks. But in the later half of the second session, the Flaming Oranje were made to tighten up their socks and play fair as Prasil Kankonkar and Clive Miranda were booked with yellow cards in the 64th and 77th minute respectively for harsh challenges onto the opposition team. On the other side, Altroy Rodrigues of Dempo SC was booked too in the 80th minute with a yellow. As the final whistle drew near, the teams pressed hard to find a goal but nothing changed the score.

By virtue of this, Sporting Clube de Goa have remained unbeaten in the entire campaign winning seven games out of eight while the last ended in a draw today. They collected a total of 22 points in the league while Dempo SC are in sixth position with eight points and still a game in hand. Salgaocar FC finished runners-up as they pocketed 18 points winning six games and loosing two.

In the Second Division League game held at Quitula ground, Sinquerim SC edged pass Candolim SC 1-0. Both teams played out strong and created a host of chances but neither of the two managed to find the opening goal as both teams went into half goalless.

Post resumption, Richard Cardozo of Candolim SC was booked with a yellow for a foul committed. As both teams were going to settle it out and share points, Akxya Vengrulkar netted in the winning goal with a fine finish in the 86th minute for Sinquerim SC.
