Sporting Goa open their Goa U-16 League campaign with a big win!

sporting-goa-u16-uyc-bogmalo-u16Sporting Clube de Goa juniors were off to a brilliant start in the Goa Under-16 league as they trounced U.Y.C. Bogmalo 6–1 at Cansaulim Ground on Tuesday. Richard Cardoz (30’, 48’, 76’) scored a fine hattrick while Karan Bagkar (55’) Alister Anthony (60’) and Riston Pereira (70’) got a goal each giving Sporting Goa a comfortable victory. Stalen Lucas (50’) scored the consolation goal for Bogmalo.

The Sporting Goa lads enjoyed the lion share of possession right from the kick off; the first half however saw a fantastic defensive performance from Bogmalo lads which kept the Sporting offense at bay. In the opening minutes of the game, Sporting winger Alister made a dashing run towards the box to unleash a fantastic shot which was saved by the keeper the rebound was struck by Richard Cardoz this time to be saved by the wood work. After creating a handful of good chances Sporting finally drew the first blood in 30th minute through an action replay moment of the opportunity they missed earlier. This time Richard managed to place the rebound past the keeper after the latter saved a powerful shot from Bevan Monterio. The score stayed 1–0 at half time.

In the second half Sporting Goa opened the flood gates this time a more sharper Richard managed to control a good cross from Alister on the right to take on two defenders in the box before placing it perfectly past the keeper making it 2 – 0 for Sporting. U.Y.C. Bogmalo saw a ray of home when Stalen Lucas managed to score a stunning free kick from the edge of the box making it 2–1, briefly inspiring his side for a fight back.

Sporting Goa’s second half substitute Karan Bagkar blew away the Bogmalo fight back with a well placed goal after latching on to a corner from Dattaraj Gaonkar. Alister Anthony was rewarded for all the hard work he put in on the flanks when he scored a fantastic solo goal after taking on two defenders and the keeper showing great composure in front of the net. Richard signed off with a well deserved hattrick before the final whistle when he got hold of a good cross from Anthony to put it past a hapless Bogmalo keeper.
