Sri Lanka set for next step in futsal, beach soccer development!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal and Beach Soccer unit began an assessment visit to Sri Lanka on Saturday, November 17.

Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) president Anura de Silva and General Secretary Jaswar Umar expressed their appreciation to the AFC for the five-day assessment which will conclude on Wednesday.

“We are delighted to welcome the AFC delegation to Sri Lanka for the AFC Futsal Assessment Visit. Futsal has gained public interest in recent years in Sri Lanka, therefore we would like to develop the sport professionally in the nation,” said de Silva.

“I also believe there is plenty to learn in futsal development, therefore we would request AFC to assist us to develop futsal in the country.”

Head of AFC Futsal and Beach Soccer Development Ali Targholizadeh said, “On behalf of the AFC President and the Futsal Committee, the AFC is ready to assist FFSL in developing futsal and beach soccer.”

“Sri Lanka has great potential to be a leading example in the South Asia Region for Beach Soccer and Futsal development.”

The opening meetings were attended by members of the FFSL futsal committee.

The AFC team will continue its responsibilities through other meetings with referees, grassroots and youth departments as well as field visits and inspections.
